Shoe size conversion chart
Use the tables to convert between US, UK and EU shoe sizes for men, women and children. A men’s US 9 is a UK 8 and an EU 42.5 on this chart.
Sizes vary by brand, sometimes by half a size or more. These tables reproduce one manufacturer’s published chart (see Sources); check the brand’s own chart before you buy.

How it’s calculated
Shoe sizes are counts of fixed steps, not a measurement you can multiply. UK and US sizes step by a barleycorn (⅓ inch, 8.47 mm); EU (Paris point) sizes step by ⅔ cm (6.67 mm). Because the scales start at different points and brands build on different lasts, conversions are read from a chart rather than calculated.
How to measure your foot
- Stand on a sheet of paper with your heel against a wall.
- Mark the tip of your longest toe and measure from the wall in centimetres.
- Measure both feet in the evening and use the longer one.
- Compare the length with the brand’s chart (the Japan size here is roughly the foot length in cm).
FAQ
There is no single international standard that every brand follows, so sizes can differ by half a size or more between brands. This chart reproduces one manufacturer’s published table; always check the brand’s own chart and measure your foot in centimetres when you can.
Are US and UK shoe sizes the same?
No. For adults a US size is about one size larger than the UK size for men (US 9 = UK 8) and about two sizes larger for women (US 8 = UK 6).
What is the difference between men’s and women’s US sizes?
A women’s US size is about 1.5 sizes larger than the men’s US size for the same foot. A women’s 8.5 is roughly a men’s 7.
Why does my size differ between brands?
Each brand uses its own lasts (the foot shapes shoes are built on) and its own size table, so EU and UK equivalents vary. Measure your foot length and compare it with the brand’s chart.
How do kids’ shoe sizes work in the US?
US children’s sizes run from toddler sizes up to 13.5, then restart at 1 for older kids (youth sizes) up to about 7.
